Facebook's 'sympathise' button

As Facebook considers introducing a new 'sympathise' button, Emma Barnett explains why such a move would make the social network an even unhealthier environment.

I used to be Facebook friends with a girl who was sadly having some health issues. Everyday, several times a day in fact, she would update her status on the social network with the latest news on her declining state.

I can only imagine if you were, as she was, sadly confined to a hospital bed, you would seek solace from your digital community of friends – posting regular messages in order to elicit a response.
